The same applies to people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication or being treated for an ongoing health concern.

Does Creatine Cause Hair Loss?

There is currently not enough evidence to conclude that creatine monohydrate causes hair loss. The concern is largely connected to a small study that reported an increase in dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, after creatine supplementation. It did not measure actual hair loss, and the finding has not established a direct cause-and-effect relationship. Based on the available research, hair loss should not be presented as a proven side effect of creatine. People with a strong personal or family history of hair loss may still want to discuss the concern with a healthcare professional.

What Should You Look for in a Creatine Supplement?

Is More Expensive Creatine Better?

Not necessarily. If two products both provide pure creatine monohydrate at the same dosage, the more expensive product may not produce better results. A higher price may be justified by third-party testing, more convenient packaging, improved mixability or a trusted manufacturing process. However, branding and added ingredients can also raise the price without making the core product more effective.
